Some developer statistics - do you match the profile?
In early March, I gave a presentation at the first (it its kind) Evans Data Corporation Developer Relations Programs Conference in San Jose. During the two day conference, several of the presenters mentioned statistics from their own research and from a recent Evans Data developer survey.
Do you fit the profile or are you outside the average?
90% are male
40 years old (41 years old in last year's survey)
62.9% are married
15 years of experience
64% of developers wouldn’t switch jobs (even to a higher paying job)
56.2% are developers because they enjoy logic and the challenges of programming
26% use/read blogs
93% make the purchase decision or influence purchase
53% believe the most credible resources are their peers, including online communities
60% purchase best of breed, not bundles
There are 20 million developers dispersed within the 6 billion global population
65% keep up with current trends
92% self-train through web sites and publications.
